Reader Services Help Desk Registration The Help Desk is situated next to the Reference Collection area. This is where students, staff, register to join the Library. Approved Readers should go to the Circulation Desk to register. Any queries with one’s registration should be referred here. Patrons are encouraged to advise Staff at the Help Desk when their address (that is, physical, postal, or email) or telephone number changes. Equally so, those Students who change their programme of study should advise the Help Desk. General Enquiries Staff on duty at the Help Desk are there to respond to general questions. These are normally from Patrons who want to know the location of various service points in the Library. The Staff member will, therefore, direct the users to other areas of the Library as necessary. Other queries may come from Patrons who are not sure of the full range of services offered in the Library and would like to know more. Reservations/Holds Patrons can place a hold on any book (from anywhere on the Internet) that is out on loan that they wish to use. Holds can be placed through the Patron Requests facility on this Site. Patron will then be notified by email when their books are ready for collection. Reserved books are collected from the Reserve Section of the Library which is situated in the Lower Reading Room, next to the Circulation Desk. Recalls The Library can recall books that are in demand. Patron Notices The Library on a regular basis sends notices to Patrons via email for: Overdue material Overdue fines Holds ready for pickup or that have been cancelled Recalled items Patrons should, therefore, ensure that they supply the Library with a valid email address upon registration. Reading Room Facilities The Library has provided two study room facilities – The Upper Reading Room and The Lower Reading. Silence must be observed at all times in these sections of the Library. The Library has also provided an extra reading room facility where students are allowed to discuss in groups although noise levels should be maintained at a minimum. This section is commonly refered to as the ‘basement’. Entry into the basement is through the Baggage Area where you leave your bags. Photocopying Facility Patrons may photocopy any material in the library. The photocopying facilities can be found in the Periodicals Section of the Library. Patron Suggestions Patrons are free to pass their comments and suggestions for the improvement of Library services. This may be done through the Submit A Suggestion facility on this site. These suggestions are reviewed by Library management regularly.
